Friday 26 July 2024 Glan-y-Mor Idol What a way to end the year! The talent of Glan-y-Môr shone through, from Abba tributes, to solo performances, to bike tricks and musical compositions. Our overall winner Azeemah wrote her own poem and delivered it with passion! To everyone who took part, we are so proud!

Wednesday 24 July 2024 Glan-y-Moyeni Together Again! Earlier this month, Glan-y-Môr had the honour to welcome Jemina, Mpoetsi and Reboloke, students at Moyeni High School, and their teacher, Mme Labo Kometsi. Their visit formed part of the Taith programme with a second cultural exchange visit to Wales with the support of Dolen Cymru. It was, once again, a very uplifting, happy and memorable week enjoyed by all. To symbolize our equitable and sustainable partnership, students designed and created a 'Glan-y-Moyeni' mural showcasing the cultural and linguistic heritage of both Wales and Lesotho. We also visited local places of interest by the sea, spend quality time together with new friendships made for life with members of Glan-y-Môr school, its community and hosting families.

Monday 27 February 2023 Lesotho 2023 In February 2023, ‘Glan-y-Moyeni’ students and staff had the amazing opportunity to meet and spend time with each other again at Moyeni High School in Quthing, Lesotho. Glan-y-Môr and Moyeni H.S., with the support of Taith, Wales' new international learning exchange programme and Dolen Cymru, spend a week together celebrating the 15-year-old partnership and their cultures with a ‘Mokete’, making new friends, learning Sesotho, enjoying time at school, exploring the local area with its dinosaur footprints and caves along with collaboratively building a keyhole garden - a type of kitchen garden that recycles as it grows and looks like a keyhole from above, incorporates a central basket where compostable waste is placed and water is poured. This has been an uplifting exchange visit creating once-in-a-lifetime memorable opportunity with an incredible human touch.

Tuesday 7 February 2023 Year 10 pupils visit Aerospace Bristol On Friday 3rd February, Aerospace Bristol took 29 of our Year 10 pupils for a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) workshop: a Mission to Mars and allowed them free roam around the museum, which included seeing the Concorde. Their STEM workshop involved taking on the role of an ESA design team developing the next generation of Mars rover. They worked in teams to work closely to a design brief set by industry experts to create their prototypes, and competed to win the contract for their company. STEM skills enhance our young people’s ability to access and succeed in rewarding careers at all levels of employment. Mr Allen, Miss Peters and Miss Harmsworth were so proud of our students for embracing this opportunity. They all participated, worked as a team and gave it their best at every aspect of the day. What a successful day! Da iawn pawb!

Monday 14 November 2022 Prize Evening 2022 On Thursday 10th November the whole school were able to celebrate face to face for the first time in three years the achievements of those individuals who have excelled in exemplifying ‘success through effort’ over the course of last year. Though every pupil in Glan-y-Môr could be awarded in one way or another, we hope that those who have gone above and beyond can serve as an inspiration to everybody as we move forward to push ourselves to be our best.

Last week a group of KS3 pupils took part in a STEM competition run by the Royal Academy of Engineering. Their challenge was to create a marble run; with prizes available for the longest run in 2 minutes and the most inventive marble run. The team had to think like an engineer to solve problems and trial and improve their design. A big well done to all involved - a crumble robotic vehicle was won for the school!

Monday 8 February 2021 Sumdog 2021 The Mathematics Department is absolutely delighted to announce that Charlotte Lewis-Camm, Year 8 was, for the second year running, the overall winner of the recent Sumdog Contest for Carmarthenshire Schools. 719 pupils competed over the weeklong contest, making Charlotte's success particularly special. Her Maths teacher and Sumdog Coordinator at the school, Mr Richard Allen, was thrilled with Charlotte's tremendous achievement, two years in a row, and also wanted to congratulate Freya Scully and Charlotte Town of Year 9 and Thomas Ashby of Year 8 who came 2nd, 3rd and 9th respectively. 9 Set 1 got the furthest as a class in the whole contest, reaching 5th in the league table of 58 qualifying classes, along with 8A and 7A who made it into 7th and 8th place respectively. To have the overall winner, 4 pupils and 3 classes in the Top 10 is a terrific achievement for Glan-y-Mor's mathematicians, and we are extremely proud of all the pupils who engaged in the contest!
